UK Digital Cities is a grouping of IT towns, cities and regions keen to collaborate in project activity and seeking to develop a more holistic set of applications for applying IT for regeneration. The grouping was initiated by some UK members of TeleCities (but is not exclusive to TeleCities members).
It has the following objectives:
To:
form a national lobby;
share success stories and pitfalls;
avoid competition for the same funds;
create links with universities;
create a channel of communication to politicians and Chief Officers.
To date, the UKDC has simply held ad hoc meetings in order to share good practice, with the ultimate goal of creating an EU model to build on. A number of other EU countries, such as Italy, Germany, The Netherlands and Portugal, have similar aims. The UKDC are committed to assisting the process, and there is currently a joint discussion forum between Italy and the UK.
The aim of the Newsletter is to create an online forum for UK Digital Cities to exchange information and ideas about our telematics activities. This means of course that YOUR contributions are essential.
